$630.00 Released October, 2007

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Good, compact form factor, compared to the traditional Blackberry devices. Excellent email support, like other RIM devices. Above average call quality compared to similar devices.

The Cons:Steep learning curve. Crammed keyboard unlike other Blackberrys. Bloated UI, can be slow at times.

The RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 is a candybar smartphone, as well as the first unit in the Pearl 8100 Series to be based on the more popular CDMA networks. As an upgrade from the Pearl 8120, the Pearl 8130 trades in its predecessor’s Wi-Fi in favor of assisted GPS capabilities.

But like its counterpart, the Pearl includes a 2MP camera that captures videos, an audio/visual player, and support for instant messaging. More importantly, the Pearl is fully compatible with advanced communications servers like Microsoft Exchange, making it exceptionally useful for on-the-go business professionals. The most significant update, however, is the Pearl’s reliance on the high-speed EV-DO network, which allows web pages to quickly load in under 10 seconds.
